There are many ways to ease symptoms of a bad cold. * Take a paracetamol tablet * Take Lemsip * Decongestants e.g. Vicks. * Rest and take it easy, do not over exert yourself. A cold or the flu can make you feel very tired, weak and lethargic. * After using tissues ALWAYS dispose of them and ALWAYS wash your hands EVERY time afterwards. * If it's really bad, stay in bed. * Also take time off sick from work. You don't want your cold/flu germs spread to anybody else do you? * Drink PLENTY of fluids, especially water. * Stay away from people/don't come too close to people till you no longer have symptoms and you are no longer contagious. * Eat lightly/eat only light foods if your appetite is not up to scratch/ don't feel like eating a proper meal. * If symptoms persist/get worse despite these measures above/phlegm is greenish yellow/you see blood in your phlegm/you cough up blood, go and see your doctor. It can mean something more serious such as * Chest/respiratory infection * Bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchi or larger lung tubes) * Pleurisy (inflammation of the lung lining or the pleura) * Pneumonia (inflammation of one or both lungs) * Croup * Epiglottitis (inflammation of the epiglottis, mainly in children) in serious cases can cause the epiglottis to swell and even shut up altogether. This is an EMERGENCY which can require intubation or a tracheotomy. * Lung cancer.

Head colds are draining and can make you feel like you have no energy! I am in the middle of my head cold, but are getting better quickly. I have started to drink a lot of hot water. I drink lemsip and put my head over a bowl of boiling water to clear the nostrils.

Also, the best thing is to keep eating a lot of protein and carbs. Eat a lot fruit and don't shy away to having a sleep in the middle of the day. Sleep is the best healer.

Hope this helps : )

What is the origin of the name swine lu?

Swine flu was first discovered in people working with pigs. Flu is a disease that is transmitted in various forms among people, pigs, and birds. Sometimes bird flu is transmitted to pigs, and sometime pig flu is transmitted to people. What actually happens is that a pig has pig flu and catches bird flu. A chromosome from the bird flu gets mixed with the pig flu and changes it to a different type of flu. Then a person with human flu catches pig flu. A chromosome with pig and perhaps bird flu mixes with the human flu. The flu is mainly human flu but contains pig and bird flu chromosomes. It got the name swine flu because people working with pigs caught it first. Because it has the pig and bird chromosomes, people with resistance to human flu, have less resistance to swine flu.
