How can you fight off zombies in the zombie apocalypse?

Massive head trauma or decapitation. It's been said even a decapitated head can still bite. Watch those ankles.

Get the brains. You're probably better wth a blunt object rather than gun, although when you run out of bullets i guess you could use a rifle or shotgun as a blunt object. Baseball bats, hockey sticks and other heavy sporting equipment would proabaly be your best bet, also dense poles, shovels, wrenches, that sort of thing. And remember canned food, and get up high, it's not in a Zombie's nature to climb up stairs unless they're directly chasing prey.

A good question. Too often, young folks are all about "How do I kill Zombies?" or "What is the best weapon?", forgetting that the goal is human survival, not indiscriminate carnage.

You have no doubt seen the training tapes that the less aware call "movies". You are familiar with some of the tactics involved in securing a farmhouse or warehouse, or Umbrella Corporation underground facility.

But how does one "survive"? Lesser means just let you run around for awhile, and the longer you are out amongst them, the more chance you have of a Mr. Cooper shutting a door in your face and leaving you to be ate.

You must find an island. Not the zombie infested island of the "Dawn of the Dead" reboot, but an uninhabited one. Or at least one able to be cleared by you and your trusted companions.

You will be waging war anyway. You'll be fighting zombies anyway. You might as well do that on some island with homes and shops and fishing gear. Fighting in cities, on the mainland - so what? There will just be more coming for you!

Clear that island. And be the nucleus of a new human civilization that one day can take back what is ours from the merciless grasp of the zombies!

There are several pointers I'd advise:

1. As with any survival situation, think shelter, water, food, in that order
2. Collect food, and lots of it.
3. Weapons, think scatter gun. A shot gun is easier to bring to bear on a target, and you do not have to be a marksman. Keep a pistol for clean up, and always double tap any zombie you shoot, unless you are on the run.
4. Find several safe houses and know the fastest routes to each of them
5. Remain indoors until your food has run out, that's when I'd start to venture outside, in the next land zombie, it will be safer than when the outbreak is kicking off.
6. Avoid fire, the burning zombies will rush you.
7. Zombies move to light, noise and with the rest of a horde, remember this.
8. Smaller Survivor groups will work better than bigger ones. Fewer people, fewer worries.
9. If you are alone, get a dog, it will help you keep your sanity
10. Protect your neck and aim for the head.
