With a fork of known frequency, the first resonating length is found. Then by lowering down the level of water in the resonance column tube the second resonating length is found. This secondlength will be approximately three times the first resonating length Now using the following Formula One can calcualte the speed of sound.

Speed of sound = 2 x frequency x (Second length - first length)

What is the effect of pressure o the speed of sound?

The air pressure has no effect. The static air pressure p_ and the density ρ of air (air density) are proportional at the same temperature. The ratio p_ / ρ is always constant, on a high mountain or even on sea level altitude. That means, the ratio p_ / ρ is always constant on a high mountain, and even at "sea level". The static atmospheric pressure p_ and the density of air ρ go always together. The ratio stays constant. When calculating the speed of sound, forget the atmospheric pressure, but look accurately at the very important temperature. The speed of sound varies with altitude (height) only because of the changing temperature there.

If the sound of a jet plane does not come from the part of the sky where the plane is seen does that mean the plane is traveling faster than the speed of sound?

no, not necessarily. the reason that the sound appears to be coming from way behind the jet is because light travels faster than sound. think of a firework show, the sound always comes after the flash depending on how far away you are. since the jet is far away, by the time the sound reaches you, the jet is already way out ahead of the sound. this might help. ---jet--> ) ) ) <---sound ) ) ) ) 0 \|/ | <----you --------------------------/ \--------------------------------------------- /

Does aerodynamics help with speed and acceleration?

si it does.

What is the frequency of a sound wave determined by?

The frequency of sound is only determined by the source. It is constant, regardless of how much you change the speed of the sound (by changing the medium it travels in) or the wavelength. It is also got something to do with the amplitude of the wave for more information put: the amplitude of a soundwave. Into google and will find many more things that will help u.

Why does tuning a bagpipe change in cold weather please help?

Due to a number of factors. The speed of sound in air changes as a function of ambient temperature. Also, wood constricts in the cold and this will change the vibrating frequency and resonance of the wooden reeds and the drones.

How do you find velocity given only mass and speed?

You can't, because you don't have enough information. In order to find velocity, you need to be able to find the speed and the direction of motion. You have the speed, but you have no information that you can use to determine the direction in which the object is moving. Mass doesn't help.

What could this sound be When I am accelerating I hear a bit of a whinding sound and obviously when I speed up and change gears the sound gets a little louder and louder Also my clutch squeeks?

Can anyone help me? "How can you change sound?" is my question and when I type it up in the question box, it says 'Contributors have said that "How can you change sound?" is the same question as "What could this sound be when I am accelerating I hear a bit of a whinding sound and obviously when I speed up and change gears the sound gets a little louder and louder. Also, my clutch squeeks?" Who ever said that those to questions are the same is an idiot. This certainly doesn't help me with my homework!:( I'm very sad now!

How is Nuclear Magnetic Resonance used in the medical field?

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is often used in the Radiology modality of MRI, which stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is an alternative to radiation producing techniques such as the traditional Anode/Cathode X-ray tube. NMR is used to help to visualize patient anatomy and pathology without delivering the harmful effects of ionizing radiation used in other modalities.
