Gun prices vary based on your location. High powered rifles- which your firearm is considered -has less value in an area where shotguns only are used for midsized game. This holds true for all but the "collectible" class.
I use the Blue Book of Gun Values sometimes to get a general idea but again it is only an idea.
Best reference is to go to (See related Link) It is the largest site I know of. Simply key in your rifle and you can see what they are selling for. Paying attention to "actual" sales will give you a good idea where the value is. Firearms as with anything else- are only worth what some is willing to pay.
In West Virginia your rifle- in excellent shape- would bring around $350.00.
I found the value of a Marlin/Glenfield (similar serial) to be at about $2,700. I'm looking too, but that's the price I was able to find.

No way of knowing without you providing a serial number to find the year of production of your Marlin model 39A.
Check the receiver and barrel.
Contact marlin customer service through their website.
The Marlin model 70P (Papoose) was made from 1986-1994.With out a serial number it would not be possible to say the exact year of production.
Left side under the rear site. That's where it is on my 99M1.
Have been through 4 referencesand 3 on line sources, and I can find no listing of a Marlin Model 61 at all. If it is truly a Marlin Model 61, please contact me through my message board, and I will see what I can learn from Marlin.
Serial numbers were not required before 1968. Try looking on the receiver.
The Wikipedia site for marlin 336 rifles includes a table showing how to use the serial number to find date of manufacture.
The way to find the year on Marlin rifles manufactured after 1972 is to take the first two digits and subtract them from 100. 100-11=89 so your rifle was made in 1989.
The last Marlin I can find records for is serial # 355300 which was made in 1906 so I'm guessing yours was made around 1910 or so.
