You can determine the value by looking in a sporting goods chain like Dick's or Gander Mountain. Find the least expensive new gun that is similar to yours and figure that yours is worth 2/3 as much if it is in nearly-new condition or 1/2 if it is worn but still functional - and of course it's worth nothing if it is inoperable. You won't have much luck finding the production date. You MAY be able to find a cross-reference list (look at oldguns.com) to find the actual manufacturer's name and model number. Then the Blue Book of Gun Values or the Standard Catalog of Firearms MAY give a range of dates during which this model was made. And forget about trying to find out who originally purchased it. The only way to get this information would be to ask each previous owner where he got it. 30 years ago anyone over 18 could lay cash on the counter and walk out with a gun. Even if you happen to live in a state which has firearm registration laws any registry lists would not be public information.
