I just read that putting a clove of garlic in 2 liters of water overnight and spraying it around areas will run them off. Sounds like the same effect it has on ants. Messes up their chemical sensors. Good luck!

birdmites.org has useful information under Strategies for managing/eliminating bird mite infestations. They are difficult to eliminate and will require much hard work, patience, and using a combination of products! Best of luck to you on this problem.
If you don't clean their cage properly, there can be build up of droppings, and mites are attracted to that. They will come and infest the droppings, and then your bird will be exposed to the mites, and most likely get them.
Open all windows and doors and the bird will hopefully fly out on its own.
Mites and their eggs can be killed using sprays, creams, or shampoos available from a chemist.

Well, your bird may not have access to bathing water, or it might have mites. You might want to take your bird to an AVIAN vet, because it might be sick, if it doesn't have mites/is dirty. Even if your bird has mites or is a little dirty, I'm sure your local avian vet can help it. c:

Bird mites. They are not like fleas, they can only survive on bird blood meals, not human blood meals. Therefore they cannot infest your home. If you remove the nest and treat the area with pesticides they will die out in several weeks.
