This question assumes the existence of a spiritual world and framework, so I will answer according to that. Those who ask such questions expect their premise to be taken seriously and to receive answers according to the framework from which they ask.

Before we can discuss getting rid of ghosts, we must first define what a ghost is and what makes them want to stay. A ghost is generally the spirit of a living person that did not cross over when that person died. They might also include dark entities that never had a body, but for the most part, it refers to the remaining spirit of a deceased individual. The reasons they stay behind include guilt, fear, unfinished business, trauma, confusion, spiritual fragmentation, desire for revenge, jealousy, love, a desire to protect another, solve the mystery behind their own death, etc. So ghosts stay behind for the same motives of things the person did while alive. Related to this is the phenomenon of possession. A person, place, or object can be possessed by ghosts and/or demons.

So when we realize that ghosts have reasons for staying behind, then it makes sense that we have to help them solve their problems if we expect for them to move on and continue their spiritual journey. If we can communicate with them, then we can begin a negotiation. It starts by getting them to tell their story to us. If emotions are holding them here, then they have to let go of them. So they have to work through any hatred, guilt, fear, shock, denial, hurt, jealousy, or whatever.

If it is a goal holding them back, then you may have to do what they want done or convince them it is unnecessary. For instance, if they need the right person to go to prison for killing them, then they can provide the cues. The challenge would be getting law enforcement to take you seriously. Even worse would be if they have the wrong person behind bars for the crime. No police officer, prosecutor, or judge would want to admit that they put the wrong person behind bars.

If they are staying on behalf of another, then you'd have to convince them that their loved ones are safe, capable, and in good hands. If there is jealousy, that would have to be overcome so they can accept that their loved one has a life or another lover and continue on their spiritual journey. They would have to realize that their role is mostly over in that person's life.

Spiritual fragmentation is a special problem. In that case, you'd have to help them find all their pieces and convince all the pieces to come together. One might have to first talk to all the fragments and get their parts of the story as much as possible, and then trying to convince them all to merge. According to some who do this sort of work, they say that a spirit won't cross over unless it has all its parts.

Take the story of an apartment complex the author once lived in. Several different people who had lived in room 13 of that complex said a young girl came to them in the middle of the night. There was no way anyone could get into the apartment. The last to tell of her said she was alive in the late 1800's and her parents threw her out because they could not afford her. There was nothing a girl that age could do to legally support herself, so she worked as a prostitute to afford the room. Apparently, one of her clients murdered her. What held her in the apartment was guilt and fear. She heard many people condemn prostitutes and say they were going to burn in the Lake of Fire forever. So she refused to continue her spiritual journey out of fear she would burn in Hell. So the pagan lady who communicated with her likely convinced her that she would not burn in Hell or that she was already in such a place of her own making. An argument that might work in such a case is that she was under the age of accountability and had no choice but to do her line of work.

Of course, if you don't know what to do, feel your life is in danger, or feel you are over your head, then you would have to get another to do this. If you can find a priest who is willing and able to do this and who can secure the authority to do so (ie., from Rome if they are Catholic), then you can get an exorcism done. There are also shamans and other spiritual healers, but you have to be very careful here, since most are likely fake. So you would need references. However, you cannot go by reputation alone since a few of the large names have been proven to be fakes. One has been banned from ever appearing on Coast to Coast AM as a guest because she was allegedly caught in a false prophecy on the air. She allegedly said some children that were trapped in a disaster were still alive. It turned out that they were found dead despite the prediction that they would be rescued in time. It could be that she was not intending to perpetuate a fraud. It is possible that she had lost her abilities, assuming she had any in the first place.

You get rid of ghosts by communicating with the ghost(s). Generally, ghosts are individuals whose body has died, but the individual is unaware their body has died. How can this possibly be, you ask? One ghost whom I got rid of was waiting for his boy to come home from WW II, he passed away while sleeping. His main interest was waiting for his boy and that is just what he did. When he became aware that his body was dead, he left the area. Another individual whose ghost I got rid of had taken up residence in a tree that he thought had special powers. He was an American Indian and somehow killed by a settler. When he became aware of his situation, he left. Fire, catastrophe, or simply dying while asleep can produce a ghost who doesn't realize his body is dead.

How do you communicate with a ghost? Well, any way you can. Words might do it, but you want your communication to arrive at the ghost. And you want your communication to be duplicated by the ghost. Words might work, or a flow of energy might work. If you have ever met a long lost friend and felt a surge of "hello" energy toward them, even before they were able to hear you words, that sort of energy! A ghost is probably not aware that he doesn't have a body. If you communicate so he becomes aware of his situation, such as where he is, or that he doesn't have a human body, or even the sunshine or the breeze, then the ghost might become aware of other elements of his location. In short, you communicate with a ghost toward bringing his awareness into present time. When he becomes aware of his situation then he is likely to leave.

Rarely, you might meet a "bad guy" ghost, a Hilter or Saddam kind of ghost who was a bad guy in real life. These sorts of individuals are more stupid, more dense, are more difficult to communicate with. Also, they are interested in playing harmful tricks, too. Good luck with those.

How do I know this? I have gotten rid of about a dozen ghosts. When the individual ghost left, the area felt lighter, felt normal, space was a little more free, people observed things about the area that they didn't observe earlier. A simple exorcism can also do the trick.

Well if you feel they will harm you and come near you then when they next come or when you next hear them then you should insist on talking to them if it doesn't work you really probably don't have ghosts, or the ghosts are uncomfortable with you.

Ghosts or spirits will only speak to people if they feel comfortable and they are positive that the person in question can hear them. Ghosts only appear when needed or when they are comfortable. I would know, I have been able to see them, hear them and speak to them since i was 2 years old and not too many people know about this so called "gift".

To get rid of a ghost, you need to stay completely calm and speak in a clear, strong voice, and just plainly say to leave you alone. If it does not work, try again, if it doesn't work a second time, surround the inside of you house in crystals. If that doesn't work, call upon someone who might have the same, or similar gift to mine and see if they can help your problem.

One way to get rid of a ghost is to have the house blessed, but sometimes it is only temporarily. My way is find out what the ghost wants, If the ghost is violent and hurts you or your family then I suggest leaving, but if you can afford to leave call in paranormal investigators.

Some ghosts just want to pass over but other ghosts just want to make peoples lives a living hell because if they do that when they pass over there's a pretty good chance there going to hell

Sometimes spirits want to pass on to the other side [You know, Heaven or Hell. But spirits normally go to Heaven]. When a wandering spirit is lost, simply talk to the spirit and say in a clear, strong voice, "Go towards the light" The spirit then knows the way to go [Heaven] Sometimes, however, they refuse to talk to you and are difficult to communicate with. I would then suggest looking up or getting some sort of spirit communication technique. [But NOT a Ouija board! These are VERY dangerous and open spiritual doors that should NOT be opened!!] If things get too extreme, I suggest getting a paranormal investigator or a ghost hunter. I find it easier if you have a "special gift" like I do however where I can sense, see, and communicate with ghosts a lot easier.

I've heard that ghosts are pretty much everywhere. If you have this 'gift' does it affect your daily life? Do you get distracted? I don't really think ghosts are real but I think this clear strong voice would do. Maybe something like 'Begone! Airly apparition!'

Place an anti-ghost symbol (Looks like the Greek letter gamma) in all the rooms of the location. Do not write in lead (pencil). And I hear blessing your house gets rid of spirits and burning sage wrapped in cotton (I could be wrong about cotton) purifies everything in the area.

You can buy Blessing Oil and go to each room of the House and sprinkle it in there now if the whole room starts shaking then the ghost will not leave you alone that means they want something! I get this from me and my brothers and sisters always fascinated in Ghost Shows!

The Skeptic Point of View

There's nothing to get rid of. No one sees ghosts. There are several reasons people say they do. These include lying, visual and auditory pareidolia, hallucinating and hoaxing among others. Ghosts have never been proven to exist, so it is intellectually responsible and prudent to conclude they do not exist.

In order to make sense of our world, we must use the scientific method, not spooky stories, opinions, hoaxes or outright lies by people who need attention or need to feel special. Other believers may be uneducated, superstitious or just too young and naive.

The Scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry must be based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. A scientific method consists of the collection of data through observation and experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.

Scientific researchers propose hypotheses as explanations of phenomena, and design experimental studies to test these hypotheses. These steps must be repeatable in order to dependably predict any future results. Theories that encompass wider domains of inquiry may bind many independently derived hypotheses together in a coherent, supportive structure. This in turn may help form new hypotheses or place groups of hypotheses into context.

Among other facets shared by the various fields of inquiry is the conviction that the process must be objective to reduce biased interpretations of the results. Another basic expectation is to document, archive and share all data and methodology so they are available for careful scrutiny by other scientists, thereby allowing other researchers the opportunity to verify results by attempting to reproduce them. This practice, called full disclosure, also allows statistical measures of the reliability of these data to be established.

In summation: For something to exist it has to be proven. This is how we escaped the dark ages - using reason and logic.So, for now, ghosts do not exist.
