Alexia Irene Canada?

Alexia Irene Canada seems to be a common misspelling of Alexa Canady. She became the first African American (woman) neurosurgeon to practice in the United States. The Lansing, Michigan born Canady completed her bachelor's degree in 1971 and her medical education in 1975 at the University of Michigan with a specialty in pediatric neurosurgery. In 1977 she became the first woman, and the first black neurosurgical resident at the University of Minnesota. She has worked at the University of Pennsylvania Children's Hospital, the Children's Hospital in Detroit and at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Among her various honors, in 1993 she was the recipient of the American Medical Women's Association President's Award and she was inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame in 1989.
