Specific actions would depend upon where the water crisis is occurring and why.

Some general things a person could do would be to be very frugal and efficent in your use of water. Some possibilities include:

  • Don't leave water running. Use a glass of water for brushing your teeth. Fill a dishpan to rinse washed dishes. Scrape food off of dishes rather than using a lot of water to rinse off food debris.
  • Take sink sponge baths rather than showers or tub baths.
  • Make sure indoor Plumbing is not dripping or leaking.
  • Get more efficient toilets. Some are designed to flush differently for only liquid waste vs. solid waste. Or you don't flush every time for just liquid waste.
  • Stop watering the lawn or unnecessary outdoor plants or use grey water for that purpose.
  • Use laundry washing machines that use less water for washing clothes. They even use less than if you hand launder clothes.

How does rainwater help a city to cope with water crisis?

Most cities have a water tower. This is where the water supply for a city or town is held. When it rains, it is collected in the water tower and filtrated into the city water line. When there is a water crisis, people are advised to use as little of water as possible, because they share water through the water tower. So when they run out, absolutely no one has water in the city.
