Assuming that the cursor is at the start of the text you wish to highlight, hold down the shift key and use the cursor keys to progressively highlight the text; right arrow to go along the line, down arrow to do the whole line. Up and left reverse the process if you go too far.
It is impossible to highlight any section without a mouse unless you have a touch I pad or nook.
Highlight the text you wish to delete and then right click with the mouse and press Delete.

shading can be used as style while highlighting can not be used as a style. By using highlighting option, u can highlight selected portion of text with the desired color, where as by using shading u can highlight, texture a block of text.

highlight text and click the opposite side of your mouse. scroll down to the word copy. then you put your typing line where you want the text to be copied at and click the opposite side of your mouse and scroll down to paste. that's how you copy and paste
