To play the bass while standing up, adjust the strap height for comfort, maintain good posture to avoid strain, distribute weight evenly on both feet, and practice shifting your weight to move around the instrument smoothly.

A good technique on bass is what feels right for you and sounds right for what you're playing. There's no hard and fast rules on whether to use a pick, how many fingers to pick with, how low to sling it etc; it's what works for you.
not in very good standing
playing bass is that your giving back up to your fellow players playing bass is highly important to any band, it helps the drummer and guitarist keep their rhythm, and adds a deep note to the guitarist so he doesnt sound like crap. you can't have a good band without a good bassist.
For punk rock, I would get a Fender P-Bass. The sound has attitude, which is very good for punk rock. And for metal, I would get a Stingray. Stingrays have a solid, powerful sound. An alternative for a metal bass besides Stingray is a Warwick, they sound quite like the Stingray, except they're not as good for bass rifts and popping. Hope I helped. Keep on playing. :)
a Bass saxophone or more likely a bassoon
By far the funnest ones are the marching bass drums. You can experience an awesome time playing in a drum line and working as team to create cool beats and you get a good workout at the same time. Concert bass drums are cool if you are into that.
Check out some Bass-DVDs, they are a good help.
Well, a bass which has served a good friend of mine very well has been the Dean Z Vintage bass.
A good quality bass is at minimum 300$, now not to say a bass under that is bad, bass guitars depend on what genre you play. Example, Fender is a good punk rock bass, but I have a classic Fender P-Bass at 210$. it is an amazing punk bass for the price. So I personally wouldn't relate a bass to money and quality, some bass guitars are good for some kinds of music, and some are not. Find out what genre you like, and buy a recommended bass for that genre.
