From your local craft store, get as big a piece of craft foam as you can(it's kinda like mousepad material) and make yourself a brick design stencil out of the foam. The thickness of the foam will be the thickness of your "brick". Spray the back of your foam stencil with spray adhesive. Follow instructions on the can! When it's ready, stick your stencil to the wall, making sure you're level. Using a putty knife that's as wide as your brick is high, spread joint compound across each brick in your stencil, then pull off the stencil. You can mix latex paint or paint pigment into your joint compound to make it the color you want your bricks to be. Repeat until you're done! Make sure the wall was painted with the color you want your "mortar" to be. It should be completely dry in 24 hrs. It would be good to go back over your new backsplash with polyurethane or Minwax polycrylic to protect your project.

Kitchen Backsplash Tile Ideas?

A kitchen backsplash is designed to protect the wall just above countertops from water damage. There are a variety of ways to create a backsplash that complements the look of your kitchen.Use leftover kitchen tileIf you have recently remodeled your kitchen and installed a new tile floor, you can use leftover tile pieces to create a matching backsplash. Ensure you have enough tile, cut it to fit the space and adhere it to the wall. Use caulking to fill in gaps and spaces.Use a high-quality caulk to seal in your backsplash to ensure it lasts for a long time. A cheaper caulk might start to peel or change colors after only a couple of years. Create a beautiful mosaic designPurchase mosaic tiles at a craft or home improvement store to design your own backsplash. You can use tiles of all the same color, or experiment with several different colors. Try to use mosaic tiles in shades already found in your kitchen to make it look fully integrated and cohesive.Consider using bathroom tilesThe tiles used in bathroom showers are of high quality and are meant to stand up to repeated exposure to water, so it only makes sense that they might find their way into a kitchen. Since most bath tiles measure 4 inches by 4 inches, they are the perfect height for a backsplash. Available in a wide variety of colors and textures, bathroom tiles can create a backsplash that easily turns into the focal point of your kitchen.Install counters with built-in backsplashesIf it is your intention to install new counters anyway, look into counters that have a built-in backsplash. Ultra-modern and requiring no extra caulking or glue, these pieces give your kitchen a seamless look.No matter what method you choose to install one, a backsplash is an easy way to update your kitchen, and give it a splash of color.
