Cars generally run on gasoline. Making cars lighter and the engines more efficient will reduce their consumption of gasoline. Cars can also use alcohol (a renewable resource) or natural gas. Alcohol can be mixed with gasoline and used a fuel. If natural gas is consumed, it is also non-renewable fossil fuel, but it may be more available, and therefore less expensive.

Electric cars or hybrid cars are now available. Hybrids use electrical power when there is the batteries are sufficienty charged, and gasoline when the batteries need charging. They use much less gasoline.

Cars that run on solar power are possible, but there must be storage of power using batteries, so the cars can still run when the sun is not shining.
