if u lost the key to the knob or the button inside the truck next to the cigarrete lighter doesnt work take a screwdriver or something with a handle and shove it into the keyhole then force the knob to the right until the glass pops open...im only recommending this if you don't have any other way of opening the back...and a new knob is only like 20 dollars at a autoparts store and it comes with a key so that's a positive i guess!!
i had this same truck and the tumblers were knocked out of place so it would not open and the button was missing, i eventually fixed all those problems but that's how i did it!

If the glass will open, you can just use a slotted screwdriver inserted into the key slot to drop the gate. Takes a little pressure, but it will work. If it doesn't, and the glass doesn't click when closed, the hinge inside is stuck. You can push on it with the screwdriver and it should move. then try the screwdriver in the key slot again and it should drop the gate.

These models came stock with a release button below the cigarette lighter. If you look directly to the right of the radio there should be a button to push that will release the glass and then once its open, your tailgate should open once you do it manually. Hope this helps you

Don't know if this will help, but I had the same trouble with my 2002 and my mechanic had to take apart inside panel on back tailgate and there was a switch in their that had broken. The part was just as expensive as the labor and it was quite a task.

With the "barn doors" there is no way to open the windows. With the top glass and lower tailgate you can either insert the key into the tailgate like you would a door and turn it to "pop" open the glass. OR there should be a button to the left of the stereo (below the rear windshield wiper control) that will "pop" the rear glass.

1992 chev blazer reartail gate window lock is broken ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the 89, (83-94 S10/S15 Blazer) you turn the latch with key one direction and it opens the window. Then once the window is open, you can turn it the other direction and it opens the tailgate. On mine, the part with the "ears" started slipping. The window would still open easily with just the key. However, I was barely able to get the tailgate open using just the key. Replacement parts are available on the internet and E-Bay. You can remove the key part by removing the inside panel of the tailgate (must be open). Then 4 - 10mm bolts to hold on a cover. You may need to remove the rest of the latch mechanism (or at least push it out of the way). A slide-type clip holds the latch in place. Pry and slide the clip to the right (passenger side). The latch should come out and can be replaced. I'm trying a "repair" now. More notes later since I don't feel like trying to re-key a generic.
