1. Easiest way. Buy a Dvd player. But if you must It all depends on your grahics card and its outputs. 2. Most laptops have an output usually a 15 pin vga. All you need is vga compatible tv.
3. Most Desktops have a DVI output. You could use an DVI to HDMI adapter and the HDMI cable. Infact you could even play sound through that cable. Again you need a HDMI compatible TV. *ALL new Plasmas and LCD have one. if not you got ripped off.
No some DVDs are restricted to certain regions and others might not be readable by the PS3. My PS3 has no trouble reading the DVDs I make of TV programs I record on my Media Center computer and it upgrades them to near HD quality. It also played the DVDs I rented better than my DVD/VCR.
Tivo is a seperate company, and their machines do not have DVD support. However a Media Center computer with a DVD ROM and a TV tuner will play both DVDs and Record TV.
Nope
Yes, of course. But the pre-requisite is that the television has compatible cable wire to the computer monitor. If not, the DVD and television cannot be watched on the screen.
Yes it can play regular DVDs and on a HDTV connected with a HDMI cable will upscale them to near HD quality. It will also do the same for burned TV shows and movies made on a Media Center computer.
Yes it can even play those burnt on my PC from my Media Center TV program recordings
Mediaportal transforms your TV into a complete media solution where you can watch, schedule and record live TV. Other services include: listen to music and radio, stream media, radio and TV into your computer, and play videos, DVDs and Blu Ray Discs.
Yes and if you have a HD TV they are upscaled to HD and look great. The PS3 also will play DVDs that you burn on Your Media Center computer of TV shows you recorded. It has played everything much better than in my Sony DVD/VCR combo player so that I no longer even consider using it to play DVDs. Of course it also Plays Blu Ray discs and the pictures look better than the 720P HD broadcast of the same movie.
HD DVDS are DVDs that can be played on high definition TV players. The regular DVD can be played on any TV and is not in the same definition as the HD DVDs.
PlayStation 3 will Play Blu Ray discs, it will also upgrade the DVDs to 1080p and play the DVDs with much better quality than a player that does not have the upgrade capability. I no longer use my DVD player to play any of the DVDs and only use the PlayStation 3 to play everything. I use my computer to record some shows while I am watching other shows. I then transfer them to DVD and also play them through the PS3. When I am watching the shows I am very impressed with how fast the PS3 can skip over the commercials in the fast forward at speeds of 1.5, 10, 30, and 120. It also has sound at the 1.5 speed and I have found than option useful. Because I have a Sony BR6 TV I don't even have to use a controller for a remote to play the DVDs, or purchase the special PS3 remote because my TV remote will work on the PS3 from the HDMI sync on the TV. I just insert a disc into the PS3 and the TV and Remote switch over to the PlayStation 3. I should mention that even though the PS3 will upgrade the DVDs the picture quality of the Blu Ray is even better than anything I have seen on my TV including all the HD broadcast of Movies and TV shows that are only at 720P.
Typically no, because the computer has the software to know to play the audio from it. Some DVDs do have separate audio tracks installed, which can be picked up by the CD player.
Yes it does a very good job and the TV shows that I record on my Media Center Computer play much better on the PS3 than they ever did on the Sony DVD/VCR. I also like the ability to fast forward past the commercials with the PS3. Rental DVDs of movies also seem to play clearer in the PS3 than in the Sony DVD/VCR player I used to use.
