I am in the same boat,,, the truck is up on jacks and I have d/c'd the negative batt terminal. Removed the wires to the starter relay and also two bolts that appear to hold the starter on,,, one bolt was above the relay on the left side if looking (real funny, you can't see anything under there) from the front. The other bolt was on the bottom of the relay and had two heavy black wires nutted to the top of this bolt, or post. The starter is still attached very well and I can't see anymore bolts. It would help alot if someone could diagram the starter and where the bolts to remove it are located. Thanks.
there is a third nut on the top. you will need a extension to reach it. its over to the right of the bolt of the relay about top center i believe but you should be able to find it.
check your starter or starter relay.
half inch..
How do you replace a starter in a 1997 F-350 Turbo Pickup?
The starter relay is inside the starter. You will need to replace the starter.
The starter have a bad rep But you can replace the relay and clean the connections but 9 out of 10 times it's the starter itself.

how do you replace the freeze plugs between the transmision and motor on a 1997 f150 5.4
Make sure the relay is supplying the 12 volts to the starter - if so remove the starter and go get a rebuilt on to replace it or learn how to repair it yourself.
It is located in the engine compartment on the passengers side firewall. the solenoid is located under the hood
