Word Pad like any other absolutely basic text document programs was never designed to be password protected.

The main reason is that text wranglers like word pad are used to write operating systems so the security is not an issue.

Is there a way to password protect a document in Microsoft Word so nobody can read it without the password?

The (MSWord 2000) help file says: Open the document. On the File menu, click Save As. On the Tools menu in the Save As dialog box, click General Options. In the Password to open box, type a password, and then click OK. In the Reenter password to open box, type the password again, and then click OK. Click Save. or After you save it you can always encrypt it (MS 2007) Click the Menu button and go over to Prepare and click on "Encrypt Document." Enter the password you wish and then after that there should always be a password on the document to view it.

What is the maximum size of the file that can be stored in word pad?

When trying to open a wordpad document that was 524,000KB, I kept getting errors from Wordpad that the file was corrupt. So I rebooted my PC which has 1GB of memory and was then able to open the document long enough to move some information to another Wordpad document. My guess from this experience is that the maximum size is about half the size of available memory.

What is the example for save and save as?

When you click on "Save" for a new document, you are asked the same question as "Save as" -- that is, choose a title and format to save it as. If, however, you are working on a previously saved document and wish to merely save changes you've made, click on "Save." If, however, you wish to save it as a different title or format, click on "Save as." This way you will end up with two versions, the old and new ones. For example, if you have an MS Word document (.doc) and wish to also save it as a Wordpad document (.rtf), click on "Save as" and change its format in the drop-down menu. You may get a notice that the new format may not show the document exactly as it is in the original format; so be sure to look it over and make any necessary adjustments.
