usually with a hose clamp, the 2.4l sohc engine uses o-rings in alot of it's connnections along with 2 bolts to hold connections in place. If it is leaking at a hose you may have to replace hose.
If your 1998 Jeep Cherokee is leaking coolant, it might be a seal but it is more likely that it is a hose. This might also be a radiator leak, a loose hose clamp, or the freeze plugs in the radiator.
Several possibilities: 1. Radiator is leaking. 2. Coolant hose is leaking. 3. Hose clamp is loose. 3. Seal on water pump is leaking. 4. Overflow container is leaking. 5. Radiator clamp is loose or bad. Two highest possibilities: Radiator or hose is leaking.
This could result from several places, such as hose, gasket, connection or axle seal. Take the car to a reputable auto repair shop to find out the exact place.
Worn seal on steering rack Worn seal on p.s. pump Leaking hose?
If it's leaking at the radiator, make sure you haven't accidentally bent the fitting. Sometimes a brass fitting can be accidentally bent and you'll never get it to seal until it's round and cleaned up. If it's leaking at the block or water pump, make sure it's clean and there are no large corrosion pits. If everything looks good at those locations, check for leaks elsewhere. The radiator could be leaking where the hose connects. The water pump could be leaking and it only LOOKS like it's leaking at the hose.

NO... They are 2 different seals. If the transmission seal is leaking then the fluid color will be RED that's leaking. If the rear main seal is leaking then it will be oil leaking from the engine and it won't be red.
first make sure none of the hose's are leaking, if not try JW block seal and read and follow the instructions
