You can go to www.jpay.com and send money. I've used it twice. It says they process the money overnight, however, one transaction took 2 days another took 4 days, and they DO NOT notify the inmate that they have money. You will need to tell the inmate that you are sending it.
There are four ways to send California Department of Corrections inmates money: personal check, cashier's check, money order, and electronic funds transfer (EFT). Cash, traveler checks, and foreign currency are not accepted. See below for further explanation.
Checks & Money Orders
All checks and money orders should be sent by mail to the institution where the inmate is currently located; refer to the specific institution's webpage for the mailing address. The inmate's name and CDCR number, along with the sender's name and address is required on all checks and money orders.
NOTE: Personal checks are held for 30 days before being deposited into the inmate's account.
Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
You may also send money electronically through one of the following companies:
JPay
Western Union
Access Secure Deposits
It has to be sent through an approved vendor and the exact rules can very by prison as the warden can decide what companies are approved to send packages to the institution. The inmate needs to provide you the list of approved vendors and companies allowed to ship to the institution. They do not allow someone to mail in anything to an inmate other than pictures that meet their standards, money orders with the prisoner's information to put money on their books for canteen and letters. Nothing more basically.
A person who is in Wasco State Prison can receive money as soon as they arrive to the prison. There is also a faster way to send money through jpay.com.It is like direct deposit it gets to the inmate the same day. This is a site where you can basically send everything the inmate needs. From money to care packages.

Yes, a prison inmate can still receive a retirement check if they are eligible for it based on their work history and contributions. However, there are rules and limitations on how the money can be accessed while in prison.
AllCalifornia state prison administrate inmate accounts the same. It is relatively simple but there is a lot of information. So, follow this link: http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Visitors/Sending_money_to_inmates.html
Normally you do not need an account, only a transaction code from the inmate telephone provider at the specific prison.
To keep an inmate in county jail or prison for a year it costs between 45 to 55 thousand. I served 4 years believe me. And that was in Texas
No, prison is not a luxury. It costs the inmate and the taxpayer to incarcerate a man (or woman). The inmate pays in time served and separation from outside society, and the people pay money to lock a person up. The reason for segregating someone has generally remained the same.
Yes, some inmates are allowed to send money to family or friends outside of the prison. The process varies by facility and may involve using a designated money transfer service or having the inmate request a withdrawal from their account to be sent to a recipient.
The best way to send an inmate money is through J-Pay, you can do this on line, or at your local wal-mart store.
I struggled with this question, as well, but finally found an answer. City Code: ADOC. This can be used for Western Union. The only other way to send money is by Money Order. This is about $13 cheaper. Make it out to him/her with their Inmate Number; then send it to the inmate's address. When the prison opens the mail, they will send it to his/her account (after they get their cut).
You need to have the prisoners full Name and ADC# you send by mail with a money order or you can send by Western Union Quick Cash.
Generally no, he just needs a lawyer and money to go to court.
