Coming from a guy, I would see how he feels first, maybe try and figuring out if he likes you. If he is a friend and he doesn't like you in that way I wouldn't risk telling him. If he does like you however, just tell him that you also like him but I wouldn't tell him you like him A LOT, at least not at first. It all depends on how he feels really. Or you could maybe even flirt with him a little, but subtle flirting.
