You did not tell us what MAKE your shotgun is. The two 1895s that come to mind are a lever action Winchester RIFLE, and a Davenport shotgun, which had a prominent release lever right behind the hammer.
well, we have a problem. My references do not show a lever action Model 1 made by Remington. However, Remington rifles can be dated by a 2 or 3 LETTER code stamped on the barrel, left side, about a half inch from the frame. If you post that code here, we can tell you the date.

You can contact Browning Customer Service through their website, or look up date of manufacture on same website.
There should be a letter in front of that. That letter will tell you what year it was made.
