When playing, ferrets may may make a slight clucking noise, often referred to as 'dooking'. They may also have their bark acrhed and be jumping around, sometimes performing a weasel war dance. The war dance usually follows play or the successful capture of a toy or a stolen object. It consists of a frenzied series of sideways and backwards hops, often accompanied by an arched back, dooking or hissing noises, and a frizzy tail. Ferrets rarely attack, and when frightened, may latch on your hand or another piece of skin AND WILL NOT LET GO. Usually this will draw blood. To escape this, you can grab a ferrets scruff [ loose hair on top of the neck ] and draw slightly backwards, careful not to harm your fuzzy.
It sounds like your dog is playing by mouthing with your ferret. Mouthing and biting is how they learn as puppies playing with other puppies. There are variations in a dog's behavoir depending on the breed. Remember that a dog can kill a ferret very easily, even if he's only playing. Your dog needs to be trained that this is unacceptable behavoir with your ferret, otherwise you need to keep them separated. A ferret can bite pretty hard and may bring out instinct in your dog to harm your ferret. Never leave a ferret unsupervised with any other animals.
