how can you tell if the head is cracked from the exhaust side
yes. a cracked head, a warped head , bad head gasket , etc....
A cracked head and/or a bad head gasket.
The smoking out one side and not the other is a bad piston ring, a blown head gasket or cracked head it can be one or the other. If the smoke is blue its a bad ring or valve, if the smoke is white its a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Hope this helps you. D.
driver side on front of head, just follow the tube from the exhaust manifold on the drivers side and its there.
side of the head on the drivers side, close the exhaust mainifold
srry bud but odds ar if its cracked out side its cracked all the way thru :( best bet remove head take to machine shop c if it s worth refinshing and if not get a new head
Cracked head or head gasket bad
I'd check the exhaust manifold first. A cracked manifold or leaking gasket can cause a sound that's a lot like what you describe.
Bank 1 is the driver's side head, Sensor 1 is the first sensor in the exhaust system as soon as it starts off of the exhaust manifold. Just follow the exhaust pipe on driver's side head to the first o2 sensor.
It could be a head gasket or a cracked head. Look at the exhaust manifold for each cylinder on the side that has the white smoke, the cylinder that has the leak will cause that port on the manifold to get super hot. One way to quickly identify which port is to spray some cheap black (or color of choice) paint on the exhaust manifold and fill the radiator and start the engine. The paint on the bad cylinder will burn off first.
on the driver side head just above exhaust manifold
If it is just water it is condensation and nothing to worry about as this is normal when you first start the engine. If however it is coolant you have a serious problem which is more than likely a blown head gasket or cracked head. If the water smells or taste sweet it is coolant, and not plain water.
