If you're at least in the 300W range, you can run a lower-spec GPU fine. Generally speaking as long as your computer motherboard supports PCI Express, they are backwards-compatible (but you may not see the benefits of buying a top-of-the-line GPU for a really old computer). If it does not support PCI Express, you will have a difficult time, but not impossible, to find some old VGA or PCI graphics cards on the cheap somewhere.

How do you determine which processor is compatible with motherboard?

Hi Friends, I have always been thinking that how can you determine which processor is compatible with a particular mobo.. Is there any calculation or something.. Plz reply ASAP... Check the motherboard manufacturer's web site. Not all graphics cards are compatible with all motherboards either Faraaz: Thanks [[Q/User:Daviduk99|http://wiki.answers.com/Q/User:Daviduk99]]. but that doesnt answers my question.. Just wanna know whether there is any calculation to determine that a mobo is compatible with processor.. For Eg. you cannot connect a P4 on a 400-500 MHz Mobo.. So I wanna know the reason..Look for a model number on the Motherboard and Google it. It will tell you what kind of processors it supports. I'm more familiar with AMD, which currently has AM2 and AM3 socket types. Intel has several types of socket types as well. There are no calculations you can do that will tell you if they are compatible. The primary compatibility issue would be whether or not the pins will fit into the slots on the motherboard. -justws

Will an AGP 8X 1.5v only motherboard accept a graphics card which is AGP 8x 0.8v AGP 4X 1.5v?

The answer is yes, although there are some exceptions to specific models of video cards which you should visit the manufacturer's website for. (there is generally a compatability chart). Major brands such as Nvidia and ATI have this. The most simple way to tell if your card is compatible is too look at the AGP slot on the motherboard and the pins on the card. a 1.5v compatible card has a "key" (slot) closest to the rear of the card. A universal card has 2 keys, one near the rear and one near thr front. Be extremely careful when attempting to install a new video card, you may cause physical damage to your video card and motherboard (I found that out the hard way but have since become a master).

What motherboard should you choose with this processor?

Depends on what processor you're using. Go to the manufacturer's site and find the product, it should tell you the socket that the processor requires. Any motherboard with that socket will be compatible

How can I tell if my computer has a sound card that is separate and not intergrated?

If your sound card is built into the motherboard, it is an intergrated sound card. Anything else is seperate, and easily replaced.

Can I upgrade my computer graphics?

Take a look at your system motherboard to see if it has an AGP or PCI Express card slot (it will be the topmost expansion slot on the motherboard--your monitor should be connected to the card currently sitting there). This will tell you which type of video card is available to you.

Can anyone tell me Motherboards compatible with a 845G processor?

"845G" is a chipset, not a processor. The chipset is actually a part of the motherboard, and should be advertised in it's specs.

How can you tell if your computer has a removable graphics card?

Inside the Case there will be a card Plugged into the PCI or AGP slots. If your VGA/DVI cable plugs into a card in the expansion slots then your card is removable. If not then it is on the motherboard and shares system resources

How do you know if your PC's motherboard has an integrated sound card?

The way you can tell if your PC motherboard has a built on sound card is by looking at the ports on the back of the PC. Above is a picture of a sound card. You will see blue, black, green, orange, pink, and grey colors the colors you see are the sound ports where you plug in your mic, headphone/speakers etc.
