well im one myself and i say sit down with them alone and talk away from any other people and he will listen, and if not hes not much of a listener to begin with and isn't worth it.
That is a real toughie, id say try and get him with as little crowd as possible and tell him as sincerely as possible, class clowns aren't clowns unless there is a crowd, they live for crowds. hope this helps good luck :)
