Just push down on it. if its not popped it will do nothing. if it is it will push back down
You can tell if your fuel pump shutoff switch is bad, if the fuel pump does not shut off when you flip the switch. You can also tell if the switch is bad by looking at the wire connections.
The button on top of the inertia switch / fuel pump shut off switch will have popped up , also something like FUEL RESET should appear in your gauge cluster
There should be a warning light in your dash , something like FUEL RESET Also , the button on the top of your fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) will have popped up
You find the fuel pump inertia switch and if it is tripped and needs resetting then it was activated.

i am looking for fuel pump for 99 Chevy Malibu where fuel loacation please tell me now
I have a 93 ford escort wagon with owner's manual. The manual states there is a reset button that may need to be pressed down if the sensor activated the fuel cut off. In my wagon, and it may be different for your style escort, the cut off reset button is located in a small panel (that has a cover) over the passenger side rear tire. You might see if you can locate that reset button in YOUR escort. I should tell you, also, that my fuel cut off reset button was NOT activated even though my dashboard light (fuel shut-off) was on. I couldn't drive the vehicle while the dash light was on so I had it towed to my mechanic who found out the problem had nothing to do with the fuel shut off -- it was a bad timing belt. Once the belt was replaced, the dashboard light went off and I was on the road again. Go figure.....
In most cases the fuel pump will not make any noises at all. A fuel pump going bad will cause the engine to shut off unexpectedly.
I have never had the pleasure of working on a Jag. But a engine is a engine. It could be a lot of things. The first thing I would check would be the fuel lines, make sure they are not bent or broke, then the fuel filter, then the fuel pump... Check for fuses & relays I have no idea where they are on a Jag. Some cars have a emergency fuel shut off in the trunk, or behind a kick panel, they usually have a reset button you have to push...some have to be reset if the car ran out of fuel. The owners manual should tell you where the relays, fuses,& emergency shut off are located. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
