Yes, the real world - actually meeting the guy - is the reality that counts. The way he holds your hand, the way he touches your face and the sound of his real voice. Get with it! Meet the guy! Don't make judgments that are made on too little information. The internet is wonderful. But it's the real world that allows us to make good judgments.
