If marijuana was legalized, it would help the US economy, as the government would be able to start taxing it like they do tabacco and alcohol.
At the Federal Level, Marijuana is illegal, one of the most penalized crimes in the U.S. In California, however, Marijuana has been legalized for medicinal purposes, as a painkiller for people dealing with chemotherapy and other chronic conditions.
Using marijuana is illegitimate in America beneath federal law. But in positive states using it is legitimated only for its therapeutic uses. Doesn't matter stay away from both unless you wanna end up in prison. There are several differences between marijuana and alcohol. Marijuana is usually smoked, and alcohol is consumed by drinking it. (It is also possible to drink marijuana if you brew it into a tea, but that is not the most common method.) Marijuana is illegal (and even though some states have legalized it, the US federal government has not legalized it) and alcohol is legal, except in Muslim countries where it is prohibited. Smoking marijuana is dangerous to your lungs, and drinking alcohol is dangerous to your liver.

Technically the US won't be able to completely heal from the recession by legalizing marijuana. But studies have shown that if legalized and taxed at a price around $50/ounce, that the US would receive 16 billion in revenues a year which would definitely help in our economy. In California, where medical marijuana is legal, there is a bill in office trying to legalize the use of cannabis with similar laws to alcohol. Because marijuana is California's #1 cash crop, there would be a 1 billion dollar a year of extra taxes just if California legalized cannabis. Florida has not legalized marijuana. There is a ballot that might make its way in the 2016 election in regards to medical marijuana, but that is it.
One that immediately comes to mind is the dispute between states that have legalized marijuana for medical us, and the Federal Government which still has a ban on the plant.
Marijuana is now legal in the state of California and seven other states.
The only reason it's not legalized is because 1) the government can't put a tax on it 2) It can be grown anywhere thus creating weed plants that the gov't couldn't stop because of private property This answer was written by someone who smokes marijuana and is biased. Marijuana can be taxed and has been before now. Growing on private property is not enough defence against arrest and prosecution. Legalizing marijuana would be an endorsement of an antisocial drug that sometimes makes sensitive people crazy. The smoke gives people cancer. Legalizing marijuana would add to the social, health and economic problems brought about by drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco. The US government tried to ban alcohol, but too many people were willing to break the law. Since marijuana is already illegal and most people still accept that law it would be unwise and unpopular to change it. Some bad things are accepted because most people allow them. Marijuana isn't accepted by most people (some local areas buck this overall trend).
