How can you turn off the passenger airbag in your mondeo so you can fit a baby seat?

I've got a feeling it shuts off automatically when there's a certain weight in the passengers seat and the seatbelt is done up. When this happens the airbag warning light on the dashboard (not the instruments) stays on. I think the manual explains more.
