The correct name for a pet hamster (not including the dwarf varieties) is a Syrian, or Golden Hamster.
There are many unofficial names for the species, some refer to colouration, 'black bear hamster' for example. Some refer to fur style, like 'teddy bear hamster', or a mixture, 'fancy hamster'. However none of these are actual species in of themselves, they are all Syrian Hamsters.
fancy hamsters are another name for cambells and they come from Europe

Yes they are but some hamsters do come out in the day to get food/water and for other resons. Some hamster also wake up at dawn and dusk.
I would say and dwarf hamster any kind there cheaper and they wont chew the bars of your hamster cage they are really cute. but do not get two and try not to let them escape your hands. They are really fast runners that's why i got the teddy bear hamster because they come in cute colors and they don't bite as much and you can get more than one. =)
