According to his own writings, Mr. Obama was very discouraged that he never had a relationship with his father. He had no idea why his father showed so little interest in him over the years. When his father died, it made young Barack determined to learn more about who his father was and why he had acted the way he did. The end result was a trip to Kenya in the late 1980s to meet his dad's family and to try and learn more about the man he barely knew.
