The Apostle Paul planned to take the gospel to Spain there is no record of him actually doing that. Other believers continued to take the gospel further west

Charles "The Hammer" Martell (688-741) is credited with saving Europe from Islam. The Moors had conquered Spain and were on their way to France when Martell gathered forces to meet them before they could do so.

No One else was watching what was happening in Africa and Spain. Had he not figured out that they wouldn't stop with Spain, Europe would probably - or at least quite possibly - be Muslim today.
