How did Elvis get satrted in music?

Elvis grew up going to Church and was influenced with the singers/performers. Elvis listened to music on the radio, with an emphasis on listening to the Grand Ole Opry (i.e. Country Music based out of Nashville, TN), yet loved/collected/admired various forms of music; Opera, Latin, Italian, County, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel.

Elvis entered the Mississippi/Alabama State Fair in 1943, when Elvis was 8 years old, for the "talent contest" and came in sixth place.

Lastly, on September 9 1953 Elvis recorded his first record in Memphis Tennessee at Memphis Recording Studio (aka: Sun Records) under the guise of recording the record "for my mothers birthday".
