The story is that Claudius liked to eat mushrooms, so Agrippina his 3rd wife, had a plate of them presented to him. After the poison taster Halotus tested the mushrooms she introduced a slow acting poison into them. Claudius retired after eating the mushrooms and during the night he became sick.

Fearing that Claudius might recover, she had the apocathery Xenophone mix a fast acting poison which she had put on the tip of a feather. She the gave the feather to Claudius to help him induce vomitting which she claimed would expel the cause of his sickness. He used the feather to tickle the back of his throat, gave a groan and slumped over dead.

Immediately after his death the Senate deified Nero who became the next Emporer of Rome.

What did emperor Nero hate about Claudius his adopted mother?

Whoa! Claudius was a man, he was Nero's adoptive father, not mother. It was Nero's mother who was married to Claudius. At any rate, there is no evidence as to how Nero felt toward Claudius. We do know that his mother is said to have poisoned Claudius when she learned that he was about to disinherit Nero.Whoa! Claudius was a man, he was Nero's adoptive father, not mother.
