Pierce had many personal problems while he was President besides the difficulties facing the nation over slavery. His last child, a son, was killed in a freak train accident in January before he took office. His wife, who had decided when he has a senator years before that she did not want to live in Washington, could not cope with her grief. She was never a strong person either physically or in mental balance so she pretty much shut herself up in the White House. Pierce had a long standing drinking problem and the pressures of his job seemed to make it worse.
As for his job. He had not been active in Washington and he found it hard to get any support from Congress, even from his own party. The party bosses who nominated him and got him elected did not expect or want him to be a leader.
I am not sure what you want to know. Pierce did not have a happy life as president. His only remaining son was killed in a tragic accident a few weeks before he came to Washington to be President and his wife learned from his past experience as a senator's wife that she did not want to live in Washington. As the president, he was in a hard place, since the slavery question was tearing the country apart and Civil War loomed .

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only US president to be elected to more than two terms. He died during his fourth term and was succeeded by Harry Truman. The Twenty-Second Amendment, ratified in 1951, now limits a President's term of office to two elections, or ten years if he (or she) serves less than two years of the last President's term.Amendment XXII (excerpt)"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."
There were no 'representatives' in today's sense of the political term. There was a senate to which were appointed ex-consuls and ex-tribunes of the plebs after their term of office had expired.
His term ended when he could not capture the nomination to run for a second term and so was a lame duck until his term expired.
Franklin Pierce left office in 1857, at the end of his term in office. He was not nominated for reelection in 1856 and was thus not reelected as President to a second term. While his presidency is considered one of the least effective, he did not leave office prematurely.
