Franklin D. Roosevelt did not help the US get out of the depression, actually his policies made the depression last longer. In two full terms as president, the depression was still on and his own secretary of the Treasury, Henry Morgenthau, Jr., said "I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started. … And an enormous debt to boot."
The Great Depression continued until the US entered World War II and converted to a wartime economy. Roosevelt died before the war ended, and was replaced by Harry Truman. By this time, the congress and the American people had enough of high taxes and government intervention into business, so many of Roosevelt's policies were reversed and the economy made a huge recovery.
