John Adams was a very contradictive man. He was known for being wise and honest and defending the British troops during the time of the Boston Massacre to guarantee them the right to a fair trial. Adam's such actions were extremely unpopular with the American people but he still went out of his way for them. According to The Life and Times of John Adams he was "A vain man who took offense easily, he also acted honorably in refusing to exploit war with France for personal and partisan gain."
