Israel did not get ALL the water supplies. Israel does not have access to any of the three main rivers of the Middle East such as the Nile, the Euphrates, or the Tigris. However, they were able to gain control of all water sources in the former Mandate of Palestine as well as the Syrian sources for the Sea of Galilee (which is actually a lake). They acquired these sources through the territorial control that they exercised post-war and they acquired those territories during the war by defeating the incompetant Arab armies that were holding onto those territories prior to the war.

Why does Israel treat and reuse industrial waste-water?

Because we don't have an excess of water. Israel is a largely arid country and is (most of the time) struggling against water-shortage. You can be assured that your tap water here in Israel is safe. Municipalities test the drinking water every day, as required by law, to ensure the safety of the populace. Also, just like in America, treated waste-water is used only for agriculture, not for drinking.See also:Growing crops in the Israeli desertIsrael's flora
