Perhaps "punish" is not exactly the correct word to use in this case. Maybe more accurately the question could be 'What did Jews lose because of lack of faith in Jesus?'

First some foundation. The Israelites were God's chosen people because of a promise he had made to their forefather Abraham. God had told Abraham that one of his descendants would rise as a savior and bring blessings to all mankind (Genesis 12:1-3). However throughout their existence the Israelites (who would eventually become known as Jews) often rejected God's authority and finally after repeated warnings were allowed to be captured and assimilated by surrounding nations.

When Jesus came onto the scene his first priority was to preach to "the lost sheep of Israel (Luke 10:5-6) and for those 'lost sheep' who listened they would be given the initial chance to rule with Jesus in heaven (Mark 10:35-40). While some of the Jews seized upon this opportunity most did not. Thus Jesus words at Luke 13:34-35: "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the killer of the prophets and stoner of those sent forth to her---how often I wanted to gather your children together in the manner that a hen gathers her brood of chicks under her wings, but YOU people did not want [it]! Look! YOUR house is abandoned to YOU."

Jesus statement "your house is abandoned to you" might be translated in the modern vernacular as leaving the Jews 'to fend for themselves.' After the Jews arranged for Jesus death at the hands of the Romans note what happens. As Jesus expires the sky grows dark and an earthquake occurs. Finally " ...the curtain of the sanctuary [temple] was rent in two, from top to bottom." (Matthew 27:51)

When this event ocurred inside of the temple the large curtain that sealed off the portion of the temple called the Most Holy was exposed for all eyes to see. This had never before happened. It was a clear manifestation that the privileged position they had once occupied had now come to and end.

So you can see it is more of what a great loss the Jews incurred rather than how they were punished.

Why didn't the Jewish majority stop the Sanhedrin from condemning Jesus?

Because that is something that never happened. The complete lack of record of Jesus in the Talmud highlights that he was of no concern to the Sanhedrin.

What to do if you lack faith?

It depends on what you are saying. If you don't think you have enough faith for Christ to save you, you are wrong. No matter how little faith you have, as long as you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord of all (especially your life), Jesus is strong enough to save you from hell. I have to agree. We all have faith, it just varies where we put our faith. Some put their faith in Christ, some in the almighty dollar, some put their faith in mere mortal man. If you feel that you "lack faith" I suggest you re-evalutate WHERE you have put your faith. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

How many trails did Jesus have before he was crucified?

Many. The Jews were always trying to catch him out in his words and deeds. And even his disciples were a trial to him in their lack of faith.

What does Jesus mean when he said blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe?

People who believe in Jesus who haven't seen him believe by faith and are blessed as opposed with people who actually walked with him, having had an extra reason to believe. It's easier to believe what you see than what you don't see.

What was Jesus praying about?

Jesus prayed a lot..... so I have no idea what time you are talking about. One time, right before he was taken away to be crucified, Jesus was in the garden and he was praying that somehow if God could do what he had to do(be crucified) another way. Jesus was in a constant ongoing prayer with God. He only did it publicly because of the lack of faith in those around him.

Were Jewish laws harsh?

Did Jesus walk away from those who would not believe?

Jesus walked for three and a half years with his 12 disciples, and many times he told them off for their lack of faith. Even Judas, who never really believed in him - Judas walked away from Jesus. Jesus did not walk away from him.

What Jesus mean by the parable the withered Fig Tree in the Bible?

In the parable of the withered fig tree, Jesus uses the tree to symbolize Israel's spiritual barrenness and lack of faith. By withering the fig tree, Jesus was illustrating the importance of genuine faith and demonstrating the consequences of superficial religiosity. The parable teaches the need for authentic belief and fruitful action in one's spiritual life.

What was Jesus saying in Matt 12 vs 39 to 40?

He was telling them that because of their lack of faith and their scandalous behaviour they would not be given a "sign" other than that of his death, three days in the tomb, and resurrection, of which Jonah was a type.
