The information I have on him doesn't tell me how he died or from what. It just states that in 1627 he went to Newfoundland with his family and a bad winter made him look for an area that was better. His attempts to settle in VA led to disputes and he returned home to get a new charter, but he died before the grant was given so it passed to his son. In 1630 he and his household contracted the plague and although he survived it was in a much weakened condition.
