In Matthew 2:13-23, Joseph is told in a dream to go to Egypt because King Herod wanted to kill him.
If you recall the story of the Magi, they were originally sent by Herod as well, but they avoided him instead of telling him where Jesus was. Herod was jealous that there would be another king rising up among the people, which is why he wanted Jesus dead. So Joseph moved to Egypt to protect his family.
Here is the answer to your question taken from the Book Of Matthew Ch. 2:-
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of aEgypt have I called my son.
King Herod was looking for them so he could murder Jesus. Herod had been told that Jesus was born King of the Jews; and since Herod was the King he believed that Jesus would depose him if he let him live.
That's just a myth. The Holy Family did not actually flee to Egypt. According to Matthew's Gospel, however, Joseph has a dream where an angel tells him to flee to Egypt. He was sent this dream because Herod was killing all males younger than two because he did not want Jesus (the "king") to overthrow him (he apparently misunderstood the meaning of Jesus being called a king). However, no such massacre of infants ever happened.
Supposedly to avoid Herod's Slaughter of the Innocent.
Joseph and Mary travled to Egypt in order to escape harod (the guy who wanted to kill Jesus)
To protect Christ from Herod, who was slaughtering
all the males under the age of two in Judea.
Joseph was warned in a dream to take the young child and his mother and flee to Egypt untill he hears from God again. (Matthew 2.13) So "the holy family" that fled to Egypt, were Joseph and Mary and Jesus.
Actualy Mary and Joseph fled only once to Egypt from king Herod.
Mary , Joseph and the baby Jesus fled in the night to Egypt.
Joseph and Mary fled with the baby Jesus to Egypt, as the angel told Joseph to flee as the king Herod wanted to kill all the babies.
God did in a dream.
Here Jesus was not warned to flee, but the angel warned Joseph in a dream.
EgyptMat 2:13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him."
Jesus escaped to Egypt from Bethlehem, not Nazareth. King Herod, who wanted to kill him, ordered the massacre of all infant boys in Bethlehem, prompting Joseph and Mary to flee to Egypt with Jesus to keep him safe.
If you mean Mary, the mother of Jesus, she was a refugee because they had to flee to Egypt so that Herod would not find and kill Jesus.
Jesus was born into a poor family, but the wise men bringing gold symbolized honor and recognition of his importance and future role as the Son of God. The gifts also helped support Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as they fled to Egypt to escape King Herod's persecution.
Matthew 2 13And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
They fled to Egypt to escape the murder of the boy children of Bethlehem by Herod. After King Herod died, they went to Nazareth to live because they came from Nazareth in the first place. Luke 2, Matthew 2.
