Mexicans refused to settle there
The Mexicans who settled in Texas who speak Spanish are called Mexicans. Those who speak English are called Americans.
No. Texas used to be part of Mexico, until America stole it from the Mexicans in a war that we Americans started for a tiny, stupid reason. After we won, we tried to settle Texas. The native Mexicans saw it correctly to be an invasion, and they didn't want Americans in their home.
The US annexation of Texas.
The mexican war was a war between Texas and the mexicans for Texas becoming a newly independant country. Texas won and did not surrendur to the mexicans. The americans then later annexed Texas in 1848 in the treaty of Guadolupe Hidalgo
The Mexicans were worried about the great influx into Texas by Americans
In 1820, Spain held the land that would become Texas. They encouraged Americans to settle in Texas because not enough Mexicans had taken the opportunity to settle there. When Mexico gained their independence, they continued the Immigration policy that the Spanish had put in place.
Beginning about 1821 after the Mexicans gained Independence from Spain.
Perhaps retain their hold on California and to regain Texas.
the cause was land, a border dispute.
They did, and provided them with generous land grants. Texas however was a part of Mexico, and it was Americans who were invited to Texas.
Mexico encouraged foreign settlement in Texas, but then Americans far outnumbered Mexicans in Texas. The Americans started to want to be independent, so they started the Texas Revolution. The Alamo was the first battle. Although all the Americans were killed, the Mexicans, in proportion, had many more losses. After that, the U.S. sent aid to the Texan army, which then routed the Mexicans at San Antonio and San Juanito (I think). Texas became a U.S. state 9 years later, in 1845.
