The union were beating the confederates at first, later Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson told every to stand their ground. He stood there waiting then the confederates got a comeback which made them win the First Battle of Bull Run.

The official version is the former, and he supposedly added "Rally behind the Virginians!"
At the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas), a Confederate Brigadier called Barnard Bee is known to have shouted "There is Jackson, standing like a stone wall!"
He is then supposed to have added "Rally behind the Virginians!" This version supposes that Bee was praising Jackson.
The other theory is that he was cursing him for not coming across to help Bee's own brigade.
As Bee was mortally wounded later in the day, nobody was able to establish which version was correct. But Jackson became 'Stonewall' from that day on, and his brigade was known as the Stonewall Brigade.

We will never know whether he was praising Jackson for standing fast, or criticizing him for not coming across to help, as the Birgadier was mortally wounded later the same day.
General Jackson earned the nickname of "Stonewall" from Southern General Bee who referred to Jackson's standing like a "stonewall" in the first Battle of Bull Run which saw the Confederates rout the Union forces. It was in July 21, 1861.
At First Manassas, General Bernard Bee's troops were wavering. Seeing Jackson's brigade holding firm, he shouted, "There stands Jackson like a stone wall, rally behind the Virginians!"
