We do not actually know that William had more men at the Battle of Hastings, though many believe he did. We do know, however, that there were a large number of English soldiers who had not yet arrived, and if Harold had waited for them, his army would have been much bigger.
Yes the Normans did win the Battle of Hastings because of Harold Godwinson's mistakes for example he lost most of his men because he fought in a battle against Hardrada just before he heard that the Normans had landed in Dover and he only had about a quarter of his men left.
