The tactics of William were amazing he broke through the wall of shields. That's the reason why he won. Also, Harold's army was tired from all the fighting they have been doing.

And also he won the battle because William pretended to retreat and Harold's team came down the hill so William turned around and shot Harold in the eye.

As haraold godwineson had just fought a battle against harold hadraada and was not prepared as his troops were exhausted from the walk from stanford bridge to Hastings and did not bring any forces (horses or archers) to improve his chances of winning the battle
