While a significant percentage of Native American deaths derived from unintentional germ transmission from British Colonists and Americans, there was also intentional germ transmission (giving infected blankets to Native tribes) and the hunting and persecution of Native American tribes to eliminate them. These two latter types of events are clearly genocide.
