Ancient people didn't have to work too hard at staying in shape. They had to walk everywhere, there were no mechanical items so they lifted, pulled, tugged, and rolled everything, most were farmers (90%) so that means they plowed fields, cut crops, and had to pick them as well. Everything they had they had to make so that means they made their candles, collected wood for cooking/heating, carried water, spun wool for clothing, milked cows, make butter, and cared for animals. Their days were full and hard.
