Non-whites in Africa were kept in segregated neighborhoods. They went to different schools different hospitals different movie theaters and different restaurants. They were separated on trains ans buses. Signs appeared on public beaches and parks announcing ''For White Person Only''.

Very badly, by banning them from areas and facilities reseved only for the 'white' population. This form of racism became unacceptable outside South Africa in the 1960s when they were thrown out of the Commonwealth, and eventually the ruling white population itself accepted that apartheid was unacceptable in the civilised world.

The now - abolished policy of apartheid in South Africa was created to divide Black, Asiatic and "colored" South African citizens from the White citizens. The idea was to segregate the non -whites from the superior white ruling classes.
