Bullying originally got its name from Dutch and German words meaning "brother" and "lover." Then the term started to mean a "fine fellow" and eventually corrupted into "a harasser of the weak." It also took on somewhat of a sexual connotation for a while and meant pretty much what the word "pimp" (a prostitute's protector) means today.
