the earth's surface is made up of tectonic plates, due to convection currents these plates are moving all the time

because of this you have huge tectonic plates pushing against each other.

the cause of earth quakes is tectonic plates rubbing against each other, eventually these plates push up wards founing huge mountain vistas such as the himilayas.

these plates keep moving and this is whay mount Everest grows 4 inches or so every year (might be 4 millimeters)
